New FDA Rules on Label Serving Sizes

Bookmark and Share

Hello all,

Today the FDA is taking on food labeling again - this time as regards to serving sizes.  Most of us eat at least 2 portions when we think we're getting one and as a result, are taking in at least twice as many calories and a ton more salt than we think we are.   All the more reason to really read food labels.  For many years I read a food label instead of price tag when shopping, then when the economy took a nose dive, I began reading both.  Seems like that's the way to go.  The FDA is in a quandary.  They don't know if they should make the serving size more accurate so that we all know we're actually getting 2500 grams of salt and 800 calories in that handful of healthy blue corn tortilla chips we're munching or if they should let us all know that their idea of a serving size is 2 blue corn tortilla chips...

Well, you all know how I feel about taking our Health Care into our own hands and now it seems we also need to bring a magnifying glass (to read the small print) and measuring cup along with us to the supermarket when we buy our groceries.    Happy Shopping!

Best of Health,

Kathi
